Dicom server:

The DICOM Server tab enables you to create, edit, or delete Application Entitles (AEs) for use in the DICOM eXtender intelligent routing engine. These AEs may be created to listen based off any AE Title, IP address, and port for complete customizability.

Add Button - If you click the "Add" button you will presented with the following window:

The fields for adding an AE title for eXtender are as follows:
•AE Title - name of the application entity that you wish the server to listen on for incoming transmissions
•IP Address - the IP address that you want the server to listen on for this particular AE name
•Port - the port number that you want the server to listen on for this particular AE name. Mote: ensure that the port you specified is not in use by any other applications otherwise eXtender will fail to receive images on that port.
•Description - any descriptive information that you want to associate with that particular AE Title
•Make Default - makes this AE Title the default for receiving images on
•SSL Enabled - whether or not SSL is enabled for this AE Title

Important: You must click on "Save" at the bottom of the window for settings to take effect. In addition you must also click on the "OK" or "Apply" button at the bottom of the DICOM Management window otherwise you will not be able to create new routes or edit your existing routes.

Important: When you add a DICOM Server AE Title, the router service must be restarted or the router will not be able to receive images!

Click OK to this message and follow the steps below to restart the services:
1.Click Start
 2.Click Run
 3.Type services.msc and press Enter
4.You will see a screen similar to the one below. Right Click "mPlexus DICOM eXtender" and click "Restart"

You will then see the service restart:

5.The service will automatically stop and restart and the "Service Control" window will disappear
 6.Close the "Services" window

Edit Button - If you click the "Edit" button you will be presented with a similar screen to the Add button and you can directly edit the same options as above.

Delete Button - If you click the "Delete" button after highlighting an AE title you will be asked if you want to delete it after which you an click "Yes" to permanently delete it.

Remote Devices

The Remote Devices tab allows you to add, edit, or delete the remote devices that images will be routing to and from.

Add Button - If you click the "Add" button you will presented with the following window:

The fields for adding an AE title for eXtender are as follows:
•AE Title - AE Title of the remote device that DICOM eXtender will be receiving images from and/or sending images to
•IP Address - IP address of the remote device that DICOM eXtender will be receiving images from and/or sending images to
•Port - the port number of the remote device that DICOM eXtender will be receiving images from and/or sending images to
•Description - refers to a field that you may use to describe the remote device that DICOM eXtender will be receiving images from and/or sending images to.
•SSL Enabled - whether or not SSL is enabled for this device

Important: You must click on "Save" at the bottom of the window for settings to take effect. In addition you must also click on the "OK" or "Apply" button at the bottom of the DICOM Management window otherwise you will not be able to create new routes or edit your existing routes.

Edit Button - If you click the "Edit" button you will be presented with a similar screen to the Add button and you can directly edit the same options as above.

Delete Button - If you click the "Delete" button after highlighting a device you will be asked if you want to delete it after which you an click "Yes" to permanently delete it.

Routing

The Routing tab allows you to view your existing routes and to easily set up intelligent routes using the Route Wizard.

Add Button - clicking brings up the routing wizard. To continue create a router, click "Next"

You will now be able to enter general information about the route such as route name and a description of the route. To continue, click "Next".

You will now see the option to use Source Routing.

"Source routing" refers to the ability to route based off the AE title that the images originate from. For example, if you want all images that are sent from a PACS server to be automatically routed to a specific workstation, then place a check mark in the box and pick the "source" that refers to that PACS server. (These sources are defined in the Remote Devices tab of the DICOM Management window). If you do not wish to route based off source then leave the box unchecked. To continue, click "Next"

You will now see the option to use Receive Routing.

"Receive Routing" refers to the ability to route based off the AE title that the images were sent to. For example, if images were sent from a PACS server to the DICOM router with the AE Title of "HOSP_C" then this route will automatically route to the location that you specify. This allows the same PACS server to send images to the router but be able to specify where they go based off the name of the Local AE title specified on the DICOM Router (These Local AE titles are defined in the DICOM Server Tab of the DICOM Management window). If you do not wish to route based off receive routing then leave the box unchecked. To continue, click "Next"

You will now see the option to route based on the DICOM header.

"DICOM Header Routing" refers to the ability to route based off information in the DICOM Header. This is particularly useful if radiologists read only certain parts of the body or certain types of modalities so that all incoming images to the router automatically are routed to that radiologist. To enable this routing place a check mark in the box and select the DICOM Header that you would like route off as well as indicate a value for this header. If you do not wish to route based off the DICOM Header then leave the box unchecked. To continue click "Next"

You will now see the option to route based on Query/Retrieve Parameters.

"Query / Retrieve Routing" refers to the ability to set a recurring pattern of an automated query of a remote device. This is particularly useful if you want to automatically retrieve new images from a PACS on a set schedule and then route them to an offsite storage facility or a teleradiologist. To enable this routing place a check mark in the box and click "Set AEs" button.

To select the remote device(s) you would like to automatically query highlight and click the >> button to move them over from the "Possible AE's" window to the "Query These AEs" window and click "OK". Once back in the Query/Retrieve Wizard, Click the "Set Schedule" button.

Select the time you would like the recurring pattern to begin, then place the radio button on the interval level you would like the pattern to occur at (i.e. Minute, Hourly, Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Yearly) and click "OK". Once back in the Query/Retrieve Wizard, Click the "Set Query Parameters" button.

This window allows you to specify the Query Parameters used for this automated query.
•Patient ID - Use this filter to query for the patient ID field. You may also search for the first few numbers of the patient's ID (i.e. "34" for 345234)
•Patient Name - Use this filter to query by the patients name (last name first). You may also search for the first few letters of the patient's name (i.e. "SMI" for Smith)
•Study Desc - Use this filter to query by the Study Description
•Study Date - Use this filter to specify a date range that the study was completed. You may click the "Today" radio button to quickly set these fields to today's date or the "Yesterday" radio button to quickly set these fields to yesterday's date
•Accession # - Use this filter to query by the Accession # of the study
•Referring MD - Use this filter to query by the referring physician of the patient
•Modality - Use this filter to query by modality. While you can select multiple modalities on the same query the remote device must support this ability (as it is not in conformance to the DICOM standard). If the remote device does not support this then it will default to the last modality checked in the list (i.e. if you have CR and US checked then the remote device will only return US images. If you query for CT and MR, only MR exams will be returned)

Click "OK" to set your Query Parameters. Back at the Query/Retrieve Wizard, click "Next" to continue. If you do not wish to route based off "Query / Retrieve Routing" then leave the box unchecked and click "Next"

You will now see the list of possible route destinations and compression levels.

"Destinations" refers to where you would like to send the study once the route has been trigger based off the criteria indicated above. Select the destination you would like to send to on the left window under "Possible Destinations" and click the >> button to move it to the right window under "Route Destinations." If you would like the images to be sent to multiple locations (for example: a reading workstation, and a backup server) you may place multiple destinations in the "Route Destinations" window.

If you wish the images to be sent compressed you may choose from the following compression schemes:
•Unchanged - Will leave the images alone and use the same transfer syntax used that they images were received as. This is the default Compression Level.
•RLE Lossless - Will compress the images using the the RLE compression algorithm and send using the following transfer syntax: 1.2.840.10008.1.2.5
•Little Endian Implicit - Allows you to receive compressed images but "uncompress" them and send them send them using the following transfer syntax:1.2.840.10008.1.2
•Little Endian Explicit - Allows you to receive compressed images but "uncompress" them and send them send them using the following transfer syntax:1.2.840.10008.1.2.1
•JPEG Lossless - Will compress images using the JPEG Lossless (Process 14, Selection Value 1) compression algorithm and send using the following transfer syntax: 1.2.840.10008.1.2.4.70
•JPEG 8-bit Baseline Lossy - Will compress images using the JPEG 8-bit Baseline compression algorithm and send using the following transfer syntax: 1.2.840.10008.1.2.4.50
•JPEG 12-bit Extended Lossy - Will compress images using the JPEG 12-bit Extended compression algorithm and send using the following transfer syntax: 1.2.840.10008.1.2.4.51
•JPEG 2000 Lossless - Will compress images using the JPEG 200 Lossless compression algorithm and send using the following transfer syntax: 1.2.840.10008.1.2.4.90
•JPEG 2000 Lossy - Will compress images using the JPEG 2000 Lossy compression algorithm and send using the following transfer syntax: 1.2.840.10008.1.2.4.91

To continue, click "Next". You will now see the list of possible backup destinations.

The options for the backup destinations are the same as the route destinations and are covered above. To continue, press "Next."

The "failed attempts before backup destination" refers to the number of times the router will attempt to send to the preferred destination unsuccessfully before it will attempt to send to a backup destination. You may specify a value anywhere from 0-100 times. To continue click "Next"
(image 14)
"Scheduled Routing" refers to the ability to route images based off of the day and time that the images are sent to/from the router. To enable this option place a check mark in the box provided and then indicate the time period and days that this route applies to. For example, if a certain radiologist only reads images in the morning on Mondays and Thursdays images could automatically be routed to him based off this criteria as illustrated in the screenshot above. To finish creating the route click "Finish"

Note: If you set the two times above to be the exact same time the route will effectively be disabled. You may use this to enable and disable routes temporarily.

Edit Button - clicking allows you to edit an existing route previously setup using the built in Route Wizard. Just change the setting you wish to alter based on the steps above and click "Finish" to change the existing route.

Delete Button - allows you to permanently delete an existing route
