How to Start the DICOM eXtender Management Console
Click Start | Programs | mPlexus | mPLexus DICOM eXtender Management Console
Username: Type the username you would like to login with
Password: Type the password you would like to login with
Connect to: Type the hostname or IP address of the server you would like to connect to ("localhost" may be used if running from the server).
You may login to multiple routers at the same time by opening up another Management Console Program and specifying a different IP addresses for that router. The Server's IP address you are logged into will be shown in the title bar at the top of the window after logging in.
The Study View allows you to view information about the studies that have been routed through the DICOM eXtender server. By default the Study View displays the last 20 studies received by the router with those studies that were received most recently at the top of the list.
If you are searching for a specific study or patient you may use the following filters to help narrow down your search:
•Patient ID - Will search all studies for the specific patient ID
•Patient Name - Will search for studies with the specified Name of the Patient
•Study Desc - Will search for studies with the specified description
•Study Date - Will search for studies within the specific a date range that the study was completed on
•Patient Sex - Will search for studies that are for males, females or both
•Patient Birth Date - Will search for studies with the specified date range of the patient's birth date
•Modality - Will search for studies that match the specified Modalities. You may search for more than one modality at a time by placing a checkmark next to each modality. For example, if you wanted to see all MR and CT exams on the router you can place a checkmark next to the "CT" and "MR" modality types
•Display Type - This setting will list search results
•Records returned at a time - Allows you to specify the number of studies or patients that will be listed on each "Page" of results. If you specify 10 then 10 exams will be listed in the window below.
The buttons in Study View have the following functionality:
•<< Prev and Next >> - These buttons are used to navigate between each page of results
•Search - Allows you to perform a search with the filters used above.
•Clear - Allows you to clear any filters used above as well as the search list below.
In addition the search results can be sorted, ordered, and grouped in several different ways. You may sort this information based off each column by clicking on the column title. For example if you click the "Patient Name" Title the information will sort alphabetically. The order of the columns may also be reordered by dragging the column title to a different location. For example, if you wanted "Modality" to be the first item listed you could click and drag the "Modality" title to the location of the first column and the other columns will shift over to accommodate this new position. This information can be grouped based off any heading. In order to do this simply click and drag a column header to the space that says "Drag a column header here to group by that column" just below the words "Study View".
Manually Sending Studies
You may also manually transmit images by right clicking on a patients name and clicking on send. After doing so you will see this window:
Highlight the destination (or destinations) you would like to send this study to and click "Send."
Note: At this time manual sending using compression is not directly supported. However, it is possible to manually send a study directly to the router listening on a different AE Title (created in the DICOM Server Tab) and creating a route configured to send to the desired destination using this AE Title.
Manually Deleting Studies
You may also manually delete studies from the router by right clicking on a patients name and clicking "Delete" You will be asked to confirm your choice. If you are sure you want to delete the images click "Yes", otherwise click "No".
The Transfers View window shows the status of studies that are currently in the process of being received, sent, and routed.
This information is organized in six columns: Direction, Sending AE, Receiving AE, Patient, Receive/Send Count and Progress:
•Direction - Identifies whether the router is receiving the images or sending them.
•Sending AE - Identifies the AE Title of the Application Entity that is sending DICOM data. If images are being sent to the router this will be the name of the Remote Device that is sending images to the router. If images are being sent from the router this will be the first AE Title listed in the DICOM Server tab.
•Receiving AE - Identifies the AE Title of the Application Entity that is receiving DICOM data. If images are being sent to the router this will be the AE Title of the servers defined in the DICOM Server tab. If images are being sent from the router this will be the name of the Remote Device specified in the Route.
•Patient - Identifies the name of the patient being sent from the router. Note: While receiving images the Patient column will always be listed as "Unknown" because this information is not written to the router's database until after the transmission is complete to speed up transmission time.
•Progress - Identifies the progress percentage of an image transfer that is currently in transmission.
In addition, the Transfers View shows "Server Messages" which identifies what the server is currently processing. This typically will include information about last images transmitting to and from the router or any errors that may have occurred during these transmissions. These messages may also be viewed at any time in the Log View.
The Log View window allows you to view all logs related to the DICOM routing that has occurred on the DICOM eXtender server. You can indicate a specific date range of logs to show using the "Start" and "End" dates and you can indicate a specific category of logs using the "Category" drop-down box.
This information can be filtered by date and Category Type. These categories consists of the following: All, Audit, Security, General, Configuration, Informational:
•All - Displays all logs for the specified date range
•Audit - Displays logs about when images were received and sent by the router for the specified date range
•Security - Displays logs pertaining to when users log in and out of the Router Management Console or DICOM eXtender Web Interface for the specified date range
•General - This log type is not currently used
•Configuration - Displays logs pertaining to information about the addition or deletion of users, routes, and AE Titles for the specified date range
•Informational - Displays logs pertaining to general information about the status of the router for the specified date range
The buttons in Log View have the following functionality:
•Print - Allows you to print the information shown in the Logging View window
•Print Preview - Allows you to preview what the log printout will look like before actually printing it
•Show Logs - Allows you to filter the displayed logs based on the following criteria: "From Today", "From Last 7 Days", or "From Last 30 Days"
Note: The log view is capable of displaying 32,000 logs at a time. If your search contains more than 32,000 results it will display the first 32,000 applicable results in the database.
The Query / Retrieve window allows you to manually query other remote devices based off several filters and then retrieve the desired study, route the study to a destination or instruct the remote device to send the study to another remote device.
Note: The AE that will be used for all queries will be the AE defined first in the DICOM Server tab of the Management Window. The filters for Query/Retrieve are as follows:
•Patient ID - Use this filter to query for the patient ID field. You may also search for the first few numbers of the patient's ID (i.e. "34" for 345234)
•Patient Name - Use this filter to query by the patients name (last name first). You may also search for the first few letters of the patient's name (i.e. "SMI" for Smith)
•Study Desc - Use this filter to query by the Study Description
•Study Date - Use this filter to specify a date range that the study was completed. You may click the "Today" button to quickly set these fields to today's date or the "Yesterday" button to quickly set these fields to yesterday's date
•Patient Birth Date - Use this filter to specify a date range that the patient's birthdate
•Accession # - Use this filter to query by the Accession # of the study
•Referring MD - Use this filter to query by the referring physician of the patient
•Search Type - This allows you to perform the query at the study root or the patient root. This means that if you select "Study Root" and your query returns several studies for the same patient the results will show a new line for each study. If you select "Patient Root" and the query returns several studies for the same patient the results will show a single line with each study for that patient listed after clicking the "+" sign. Note: Many devices do not support this type of query
•Modality - Use this filter to query by modality. While you can select multiple modalities on the same query the remote device must support this ability (as it is not in conformance to the DICOM standard). If the remote device does not support this then it will default to the last modality checked in the list (i.e. if you have CR and US checked then the remote device will only return US images. If you query for CT and MR only MR exams will be returned).
•AEs - This option allows you to select the remote AEs that you will be querying. This list is based off what is defined in the Remote Devices tab of the Management Window. You may select multiple remote devices to query at the same time. If you created a new remote device and it is not showing in this list you can click the "Update AEs" button to force this list to refresh.
The buttons in Query/Retrieve have the following functionality:
•Query - Clicking this button will initiate the query based off the filtering criteria settings you specify. If you do not specify any filters you could potentially get a very long list of exams taking a significantly long time to display. It is suggested to use at least one filter when performing a query.
•Retrieve - Clicking this button (or right clicking a study and clicking "retrieve") will open the following window
This window allows you to select the AE that will receive the images. This list is generated from both the DICOM Server and Remote Devices tabs in the Management Window. If you select one of the AEs defined on the "DICOM Server" tab the DICOM eXtender will receive the image and any routes that apply to that AE title will be triggered. If you select on of the AEs defined in the "Remote Devices" tab the DICOM eXtender will tell the queried device to send the images directly to that AE title and the images will never be routed through the eXtender. This is why the queried device must know the IP and port of the AE you specify.
•Clear - Clicking this button will clear the filters and any results in query list
